History
Based in California in the United States of America, Worldview Technology started up fifteen years ago in 1996, and have since built up a portfolio of companies that has given them almost $1.4 billion under management. Success This sucess was built on the knowledge and expertise of its team as well as the experience built up by its various business ventures. They built up to having a U.S based team to focus on companies in the States, as well as expanding in to having an international team.
Worldview's investments
The Worldview team has earned a reputation for investing in successful companies. Such successes include the companies AFC, Ciena, Corvis, Cyras, DigitalThink, MMC, NVIDIA, Redstone, Silicon Spice, Simplex Solutions, Tellium, Tivoli and WFI. Their partners’ investments have led to 25 IPOs and more than ten successful acquisitions.
Silicon
The most well-known of these investments is probably Silicon, who worked in building up googles branch of Google earthview which uses mapping programs to provide users with a detailed view of the earth.
The team
Worldview was co-founded by James Wei and Michael Orsak in 1996 and the two men remain at the head of the Worldview team today. The two men boast impressive portfolios, with Orsak being named by Forbes magazine as one of the top 100 venture capitalists on the 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2009 midas lists. Wei was the pioneer in the companies' model of intergrating business development with venture capital. He was also the co-leader in the investment of Silican Spice, which brought Google earth view to the world. Pete Goettner, a software specialist joins Wei and Orsak as a third general partner of the company, whilst the rest of the main team is made up of general partner and chief operating officer, James Strawbridge, Vice President and head of finance and accounting Dan Dumais and leading consultant Tim Weingarten.
