A review of The Cliff House, The New Forest

This article is a comprehensive review of The Cliff House Hotel in New Forest, Southampton, detailing the positives and negatives of booking and staying in the hotel.

Overall summary

The Cliff House Hotel and Restaurant is a small, yet luxurious house that is open to all members of the public. Situated in the small village of Barton-On-Sea in the Southwest of England, The Cliff House Hotel is a great place for a short break, away from the hustle and bustle of modern day life.

Positive points

Breathtaking views It is firstly important to note the spectacular views surrounding the hotel. On a nice day, it is possible to look out over the coast-line for miles, and all from the comfort of the hotel’s patio area. Even if the weather is not at its best, it is still possible to smell and enjoy the sea air, showing just how close the hotel’s area is to the seaside. Beaches
Unlike many areas in the Southeast, there is a beach that can be walked on, and it is ideal for paddling.
Needless to say, the biggest selling point of the hotel is its location. Entertainment
In terms of entertainment, the surrounding area is ideal for walks, bike rides and playing golf on one of the many golf courses surrounding the hotel. It is also located closely to the New Forest National Park, which should interest children and adults alike. Good food The hotel and restaurant are completely family-run. This does not mean, however, that the service they provide is second-class. The restaurant serves quality food at affordable prices, self-named as modern English cuisine, and offers many adventurous delights, such as Baked Doest Dressed Crab. Reasonable price
As of 01.07.11, booking a double room in summer for one night costs approximately £100. This includes breakfast, and a guaranteed sea view. Single rooms are from £45 per person, per night. All in all, it is not a bad price for those looking for an ideal get-away.

Negative points

Book ahead A big negative point would be the size of the hotel. It contains seven individual bedrooms, and insists that when considering staying the night, booking ahead is vital. During the summer months, including school holidays, the hotel may be busier than usual, and it may be difficult finding a room at a time that suits your needs. Fills-up quickly
Similarly, the restaurant area is not just for hotel users, and is therefore open to the public.
This means that the restaurant may get filled quickly at meal times. However, if it’s a nice day, the hotel offers the facility to sit outside, and watch the sun set.
