Located in Brighton, East Sussex, Brighton College was founded by William Aldwin Soames in 1845. The first public school in Sussex, Brighton was one of the first schools in England to ban any form of corporal punishment. It led the way in the use of separate classrooms for educational instruction and in 1859, founded the first gymnasium in Great Britain

As of 2011, a sister branch was opened in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates in 2011. Brighton Colleges schools in East Sussex are divided into three different educational levels: Preschool, Prep School and Senior School. Preschool Brighton Preschool is for children from the ages of 3-8. The goal of the school is to develop a love for learning in children, while they are still young and from the age of 4, children start to learn French and Mandarin Chinese.
Students are introduced to the use of the Internet from the start of their education. Children start in sports from the early preschool years. Brighton believes that students can learn important individual, partner and team skills, that will help them through life, through the playing of these sports. . Prep School Prep School at Brighton is for students between the ages of 8-13. The school has a broad curriculum, and supplements it with a wide variety so sports, art music and other extracurricular activities for the students. Students at the school are observed closely, and reports are regularly sent home to the parents. There are two major exams taken during the school year, and homework is given and expected at the school. Students in the prep school have a high level of sports instruction, and are able to further their athletic skills. Senior School From the ages of 11-18, students attend the Senior School at Brighton College. Students, at this level, are preparing for college and university courses. Academics are rigorous, and a high standard of performance is expected.
Pupils are introduced to possible higher education, and career choices from the 4th form. In addition to academics, students have access to sports, music and drama activities. Students who have learning disabilities can get help through the Dyslexia Centre.

Brighton College houses

Eleven houses, divided by the sex of the students and holding between 48-70 students, are part of the Brighton College Campus. This house system helps the students to form a community, supporting them throughout their years at Brighton. Staff members are assigned to each house to supervise the students.
Day students, who do not live on campus can get a feeling of camaraderie from being a part of one of these houses.
