Things you need in a Dance bag

Young or old, dancing is a lot of fun, a cracking way to stay fit and flexible, burn off some of the calories and have a laugh. But if you're new to the class, what do you really need in your dance bag? Read on for more information.

Off to boogie

Overview Most little girls will fancy trying their hand at dance class at some point, and it is pretty straightforward to pack up a holdall and cart them off to have some fun with their buddies. Of course, if it's ballet they're going to do - as many little girls will fancy - then you need to think of things like a dance tutu, but it is probably wise to wait a few weeks until you're sure that the child is going to stick it out. Most classes combine ballet and tap and if so, you will need tap shoes, ballet shoes, leotards and possibly dance tights - although you may only need this for a special show or recital. It can be expensive to buy all the ballet clothing, so it may be an idea, either for yourself or for your child, to ask for dancing gifts for a birthday or Christmas as a way to reduce your outlay.

Getting the gear

Gear Getting the dance outfits and clothing is not difficult.
Specialist dance shops will have supplies of ballet wear and ballet shoes and dance uniforms can be provided by the class instructor, although usually at an extra cost. However, once you have shelled out for the ballet tutus, the jazz sneakers and the dance leotard, you also have to think about the other things you need to throw in the dance bag. A bottle of water is an essential, as is a little snack. A cereal bar or a banana, something that it is easy to digest but which will replace some lost energy is a sensible choice. A couple of plasters too, just in case of any accidents is another idea. Final word For adults who are off to dance class, it is also wise to throw a couple of painkillers in your bag too. You never know when you may need them given all the pounding that your feet will be taking.
