University of southern Florida

Founded in 1960, the University of South Florida (USF) has four campuses in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota and Lakeland The main campus in Tampa, Florida. Renowned around the world for its strong research programs, the university is recognised by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a "very high research" establishment.

Academics

Student body
When it opened, USF had 2,000 students. Today, over 47,000 students are part of the academic and social life of the university. Colleges
Thirteen colleges make up the University of South Florida. These colleges offer 89 undergraduate degrees for students. In addition to undergraduate degrees, 139 graduate, specialists and doctoral degrees are offered to students. USF also has a school of medicine which offers MD, PhD Program, physical therapy and athletic training programs. Financial aid
Almost 500 scholarships are available for to help students defray the costs of attending USF.

Student organisations

Activities
Over 400 clubs and students organisations make it possible for students to be actively involved in social life at USF. Students can choose to join one of the 40 plus fraternities and sororities on campus. The Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement offers students the opportunity to develop leadership skills while serving the community. Students can also choose to become involved in the USF's resident life and/or student governments.
Specific organisations
High achieving students can join one of the 27 honor societies while students who are interested in ethnic issues can join one of the 40 multicultural organisations on campus. Future lawyers and politicians could be interested in the 10 political associations at USF and students interested in religion and faith have 51 clubs to choose from.

Sports and intramurals

Athletics
USF has baseball, soccer, basketball, football, cross-country, golf, sailing, track and field, softball, volleyball and tennis teams. Tickets to sporting games and events can be purchased on the sports section of USF's website. Fans can purchase tickets for one game, multiple games or the season and USF students are eligible for a discount.
Intramurals
Students who are not on university teams can be involved in campus intramurals. Sand volleyball, regular volleyball and flag football are some of the options available. Interested students can contact the university's intramural office. References
