Brain food: The facts

The food we eat directly affects the way we perform and influences how we learn, how we communicate and how we concentrate. That's why it is is imperative to eat the right kind of food and boost your brain power.

Feed the brain

Feeding the brain
The brain needs a regular supply of good foods to ensure that it has the energy to keep performing.
Brainfood can boost your IQ, improve your mood, sharpen your memory and keep your mind active and brain nutrition will make you be the best you possibly can be. The most healthy foods - fish, eggs, fruit, vegetables and pulses - will give you optimum energy and make for a healthy brain. Good brain food is things like fish and while we all know that we should be eating five portions of fruit and veg a day, it is not just that we should get five portions into our systems but that we should be eating a variety of fruit and veg. Look for a rainbow of colours, not just because it looks good but because different colours of fruits and vegetables give us different vitamins. Eat the right foods and not only will you get optimum energy from food that you are putting into your system but you will feel on top of the world.

Healthy food

Types of healthy food
High energy foods like nuts will give a boost when you need it and a handful of pumpkin seeds will be far more beneficial than a chocolate bar when it comes to that mid-afternoon slump. Oil-rich fish like salmon, sardines and fresh tuna contain Omega 3 fats which help your brain cells talk to each other.
As a guide, try to eat at least one portion of oil-rich fish a week.
But remember that while fresh tuna contains Omega 3 fat, tinned tuna doesn't, so opt for tinned salmon instead. It has also been suggested that food rich in B vitamins, such as chicken, potatoes and bananas, can help improve your memory and keep your brain healthy.
Final word
And, while it is important to eat well it is equally vital that you drink enough water.
The brain needs to be constantly hydrated to perform well.
