Filtered water: The facts

Filters are just one of the many ways to achieve water purification or water cleaning. The process of purifying water is necessary when you need to make sure that the water you drink is potable. There are different types of water filtering systems available in the market, and they vary in terms of operation, effectiveness and cost. The most common and affordable of the water filter systems would be carbon filters.

Carbon filters

The process of filtering is actually a lot simpler compared to other methods for water purification. It mainly uses a physical barrier to strain impurities and produces cleaner water. Filters are not only used for producing drinking water. They are also installed to improve irrigation and provide a better quality of water for swimming pools and aquariums.

They are quite affordable and are available in various sizes, which make them useful in all kinds of situations. The only thing to remember about carbon filters is that they require regular replacement of filters, as they tend to lose efficiency over time. If water that has been filtered still tastes odd, then this is a good sign that you need to have your filter changed immediately. In most cases, manufacturers provide information regarding their product's expected lifespan.

UV filters

These are mostly used in remote areas where the possibility of infected or contaminated water is high. UV filtering is one of the most effective methods for sterilising water, but it does require you to perform a laboratory test to ensure that it is working. Also, you need to regularly replace UV bulbs to ensure continuous effectiveness.

Bottled water

In a way, bottled water can also be considered as filtered or at least purified water. It is critical, however, to choose the best or most reputable bottled-water brands if you want to be sure that you are indeed drinking safe and healthy water. Bottled-water tends to be expensive, but it is also the most convenient way to have a sufficient supply of drinking water with you when traveling.

Ceramic filters

Finally, there are ceramic filters, which are quite popular with campers, hikers and basically anyone who enjoy outdoor activities. Although the production rate of filtered water is slower compared to other methods, ceramic filters are nonetheless quite easy to use. After every session, you only have to scrub off and clean the filter system, and it will be good as new and ready to filter another batch of water.
