The Bread And The Spread
First decide on bread you would like to use. We are spoilt for choice among flat breads, bagels and other varieties. Wholegrain and multi-grain breads are healthy choices. Now decide on a paste to hold the bread together; cheese, butter, jam, mayonnaise, mustard and so on. A sandwich can be as simple as cheese between two slices of bread, but it pays to be creative with meats and vegetables as sandwich fillings.
The Club Sandwich
A traditional double-decker sandwich, this one is best served with chips and a shooter.
Chicken and Egg Club Sandwich Recipe
3 Slices of Bread
2 Slices of Cheese
2 Spoons of Mayonnaise
2 Spoons of Butter
Boiled Chicken
2 Hard Boiled Eggs
1 Chopped Onion
Lettuce Leaves
Cucumber Slices
Tomato Slices
Salt
Pepper
To prepare the egg paste
- Crush the boiled eggs in a bowl
- Add butter, salt and pepper
- Mix all the ingredients together until it attains the smooth texture of a paste
To prepare the chicken paste
- Shred the boiled chicken
- Mix mayonnaise, chopped onions, salt and pepper in a bowl
- Add the chicken to the mixture
Now to assemble the sandwich
- Toast 3 slices of bread
- Spread the chicken paste onto the first slice
- Layer it with lettuce, tomato, cucumber and cheese
- Cover with another slice
- Layer again with lettuce, tomato, cucumber and cheese
- Spread the egg paste on the third slice
- Cover the sandwich, egg paste on the inside
- Hold it together with cocktail sticks
The Dessert Sandwich
A delicious sandwich recipe, the Indonesian ‘Roti Bakar’ is prepared with chocolate sprinkles/hagelslag, grated cheese, butter, bread and condensed milk.
- Dust the chocolate sprinkles on one slice of bread
- Grate some cheddar cheese over it
- Cover with the second slice of bread
- Apply some butter on the outer sides of the sandwich
- Grill it
- Serve with a dollop of condensed milk on top
The Pizza Sandwich
Satiate a craving for pizza with this recipe. You will need bread of your choice, mozzarella cheese, olive oil, bottled pizza sauce, oregano, basil, salt, olives, bell pepper and pepperoni.
- Spread the pizza sauce on a slice of bread
- Add the pepperoni
- Slice the olives and the bell pepper
- Layer them on the bread
- Sprinkle oregano and salt
- Add the basil leaves
- Layer the mozzarella cheese over the filling, preferably use pre-grated cheese
- Use another slice of bread to close the sandwich
- Toast it on a flat pan with olive oil
