How to make a grilled cheese sandwich?

A toasted cheese sandwich is classic and tasty, perfect for people of all ages. It can be eaten at breakfast (as an accompaniment to tea or coffee), or as an afternoon snack. In this article, you can learn how to make a perfect grilled cheese sandwich, along with some interesting variations.

Ingredients

2 slices of bread
4 slices of American cheese
Butter, (softened)

Directions

1. Place a pan on the stove, and turn the burner on to medium heat. 2. Spread a thin layer of softened butter on one side of each piece of bread. (Tip: The easiest way to soften butter is to leave it out at room temperature for about an hour. If you are truly in a hurry, you can put it in the microwave for
5 to 10 seconds at a time. Watch it carefully, though, since it can melt quickly. 3. Place one piece of bread, butter side down, into the pan. 4. Quickly place the cheese slices on top of the bread. 5. Complete the sandwich by placing the second piece of bread, butter side up, on top of the cheese. 6. Let the sandwich cook for about two minutes. 7. Using a spatula to lift up the sandwich, check the underside of the bottom piece of bread frequently to make sure that it doesn't burn. 8. When the bottom of the sandwich is golden brown, flip it over with the spatula. 9. Let the second side of the sandwich cook for about the same amount of time. 10. When the bottom of the sandwich is golden brown, remove it from the pan and enjoy.

Variations

If a plain cheese sandwich recipe just isn't for you, there are several different grilled cheese recipe variations to choose from. You can try experimenting with different types of cheeses, for instance. The best cheese for this type of sandwich depends largely on your personal taste. Tips - Besides American cheese, you may prefer another type of cheese, such as Cheddar or hot pepper cheese. You may also want to try a mixture of two or three different cheeses. - For a more filling, heartier grilled cheese sandwich, you can also add other ingredients in addition to the cheese.
