Ceramic is one of the oldest industries of mankind. The earliest record of ceramic dates back to 24000 BC. Functional pottery first appeared in 10000 to 9000 BC. In 1500 BC, pottery glaze which is made of glass was discovered. While the making of ceramic has developed and advanced, its usefulness still remains. One of these uses is as a water pitcher. The fact that ceramic pitchers are not made with plastic is an important consideration. This is because recent studies have proven that the chemicals found in plastic (such as bisphenol-a and BPA) can leach into the food or the liquid that is held in plastic containers or pitchers. Rats that have been exposed or injected with BPA have demonstrated a risk for cancer. This has been caused by changes in their mammary and prostate tissues. Incidentally, the PUR water pitcher and Brita water pitchers are BPA free.

Earth-friendly

Ceramic is an earth-friendly product. It is made from raw materials that come from the earth. The energy required to make them is low ,far lower than other products such as metal and plastic.

Clean and cool

The ceramic has a glazing that is baked onto the ceramic through the use of fire. So, it is an important part of the pitcher or anything which is made of ceramic. This glazing acts as a protective payer. Therefore, other layers of protection are not needed for the water pitcher. Ceramics are able to dissipate heat quickly and they can also keep their contents cool. This is suitable for obtaining a nice cool glass of water. Ceramics can be quite strong as well, unless they are dropped. They do not oxidise when they are exposed to salt and they do not electrolysise when they are exposed to electricity. Ceramic pitchers come in many styles, sizes and capacities. This means that you will be able to find a ceramic water pitcher that will be appropriate for the needs of your family. It may perhaps even be pourable by your children (in this case though, smaller pitchers are recommended). You can find ceramic water pitchers at yard sales, kitchen supply stores and even antique stores. These ceramic pitchers will be able to serve you for many years to come. They can also be passed down to other generations.
